Congratulations to our very own Co-Founder & Executive Director Michelle Patterson on the birth of her daughter Gwen! Our first baby has been born in Project Healthy Smile and how fitting that it is a girl! We already know that this little lady is going to be a true philanthropist and explorer just like her mother. Gwen has already fulfilled 2 missions to Haiti before she was even born! Michelle was such a trooper to travel to Haiti last December and again last May with Gwen. Michelle’s determination just set the precedent for what our new baby Gwen is going to do with Project Healthy Smile in the future.

We would like to say welcome home to our friend and humble humanitarian Danielle Nyquist. We met Danielle while serving Fondation Enfant Jesus in Haiti. Danielle was the creche’s social worker and a key correspondent for many families adopting from other countries. During this time Danielle had been a huge influence on so many children in need of love and attention. She also carried out the mission of documenting each child’s life through photos, reports and art. She wanted children who are being adopted to families outside of Haiti to have reference of their own childhood and history. We were thrilled to meet Danielle during our stay at FEJ. She was a wealth of knowledge about the community, and an incredibly intelligent woman. Now that Danielle’ position is over, she has come back to the US, and resides in Michigan. We want to not only welcome her home, but also give her a huge thank you for her compassion and generosity.
The following is a heart warming entry to Danielle’s final journal of her time in Haiti (click here to view journal entry).

We brought oral health education, dental supplies and fluoride treatments to over 550 children at a primary school in Lamardelle, Haiti. We had an oral health lesson with the school staff who will implement our program. The children will brush and floss after their meals at school. We also provided our services to women who became amputees after the devastating earthquake. The orphaned children we worked with last December are doing great and all received new toothbrushes. We gave an oral health lesson with the orphaned infant caregivers. Thank you to all our donors and supporters for making our mission a huge success! Pictures from our trip are posted below.
A BIG thank you to Fondation Enfant Jesus for their generous hospitality. To learn more about this fantastic foundation and their programs please visit http://www.fondationenfantjesus.org/.
